Allen and Lavonne Dorr are proud farmers first and foremost. But with a tract of land featuring 100-year-old trees, hills and a few natural ponds, they saw an opportunity … the family in 1995 decided to set aside the rougher, less-suitable of their farmland and had it shaped into a nine-hole golf course.
Things went well with the first nine holes, so in 1997 they contracted with Mattingly & Kuehn Golf Design Inc. of Grafton, WI to complete an 18-hole tract.
Prairie Woods Golf course was complete. And the rest, as they say, is golf history!
For such a short-lived golf course, you cannot help but be impressed with the magnificence of our forested layout. It will definitely come to mind as you play various holes where you’re literally hitting up and out of the forest.
You may run into one or more of the Dorr family while you’re here. Along with Allen and Lavonne, their children (Cindy, Bob and Chris) play various roles in helping us to maintain a family atmosphere here at Prairie Woods.
